Prisoners are scouring features in Hello! and other magazines to work out how to burgle the homes of celebrities, security experts have said.

The rich and famous who share their lifestyles in glossy magazines are being warned that they are handing burglars a manual on how to target them.

Thieves used to scour death notices in local newspapers to find out when the family would be away from home attending the funeral. Now they are just as likely to pick up a glossy magazine or The Sunday Times Rich List, scrutinise the family’s Facebook and Instagram accounts and use Google street view.
